All of the updates here!

This page features emails from the boys from their time in Kenya as well as some pictures.

So, you're going to Kenya?
This is a picture of our beloved two, just before boarding the plane at Glasgow Airport. The flight was delayed slightly, but did take off at about 6:30pm on Tuesday (21st September 2004) evening. Many thanks to Janette McGinnis (Craig's mum) for the pic. All the best lads, do us proud!

I think quite a few of us received an email from the lads on 1/10/04, it was very touching, so for those of you who did not get it, I have copied the highlights of the letter. Enjoy.

Dear Gang,

hamjambo, Habari?....

First things first.  A big asante (thankyou) to all of you crazy kids for yer support and encouragement over the past months without which these two crazy diamonds may not be shining on over here in the highlands of Kenya.  Motobo , Kericho to be precise. We spent one night in Nairobi and then drove up the following day which gave us the chance to see scenery, baboons and zebra ( one in particular took a shine to kevin).

Anyhoo the first few days went hicup free aside from a pressure cooker of stew blowing off in kevs face. Funny as. Funny as. The boy had burning beef all over his handsome face, which i can confirm has made a full recovry at least phsyically. mentaly he's still traumatised and often wakes up during the night in a cold sweat cursing meat and swearing revenge on evry pressure cooker in all of Kericho. Hes somethin else so he is.  As are the rest of the gang here. Big John , Nicola , Tracy are all sound as...  The Sisters aswell, Sister Placida ( the biggest Morton fan in  Kenya) and Sister Patricia   ( who used to play proffesionaly for the Nigerian womans football team)  have been terrbily good to us and welcomed us with open arms.

Kenyan people are the best people. Fact. Evryone here has been nout but friendly to us and we are very grateful to them all.  The kids  are great . You cant walk down the street without them shoutin " Mzungu ( whiteboy) !   How are you? how are you? " and shaking hands with you.  Kevin thinks its the 2nd coming of Hulkamania. However hes not the Hulkster and im not the heartbreak kid shawn michaels. Not yet anyway. One day. One day....

The Kids in the Live with Hope group are great.  Theres about 20 of them in total and each and evryone of them are an inspiration.  They sung us the Jambo Jambo song and we played football with them on the friday after we arived. Kenyan football its the future. i tell thee get Tom O'Niel out here.  We went to watch the alter boys football team play a game.  St MArys Boys   VS  St Patricks     a fierce game for these bitter rivals. half time our St MArys Boys were 6- 1 down but pulled it back in the 2nd half to  7 all. THanks to guest Referee Kevin McLaughlin who somehow managed to find 25 minutes injury time to play.  look out Pierluigi Collini. they played again the follwing day and let us two and Big J have a kickabout too. We got humped.

The sisters are keeping us busy. We've had the chance to visit , with Paul the social worker and Rose the Nurse, some of the clients of the center that are too sick to come to the sessions on wednesdays. Some of whom physicly look like skeletons. One man in particular we visited was very poorly and passed away during the night after we visited. however these people truly special people. there faith is so strong and they really are living with hope.  The condtions the people live in are dreadful. One man was living in one room 2m by 2m with his wife and two teenage daughters sharing the one bed.  They are in such a desperate poverty that you just dont see back home. Materialy these people are poor. Impoverished in spirit , in soul and faith they certainly are not.  We can only hope to aspire to the levels of richness in these fields that these people are.  Again Kenyan people are the best people. Fact

Anyhoo pray tell of the charms of tertiary education? Wots the news back home? We've only heard snippits here. Gordon Brown droppin the debt?  Bono Backin blair? Blue to split?

Take care,

A Humbled Los Walros

PS :  Kevin is as Mzungu as he ever was.
